I wanted my first proper post to be about my grandmother, Johnny Mae Kalinich (Bruner). Right now she is in the hospital and I’m going to be with her tomorrow and stay with her through the night. She is an amazing person. Really… ask anyone. She has had a rough past couple of years but through it all she has kept her amazing sense of humor.
On Friday nights, when we were kids, me and my cousins would rent a scary movie and stay the night at her house in the thick woods outside of Holdenville, Oklahoma. It never failed that she would put on crazy makeup and put a panty hose on her head, sneak outside and scare us half to death. She would usually appear in some window or suddenly start banging on some door. Even though we knew she was going to do it, every time we were honestly scared.
I’m grateful that my daughter has been able to spend so much time with her for the last few years. Here’s to a woman who has lead an epic life of laughter, joy, sadness, and love. Thank you for all the laughs and memories. I love you, forever.
